Good Times

“Quintuplet Surprise” or “Too Many Babies?”

164 Comments 10 March 2010

Hey everybody!  I hope you all liked the show last Thursday night!  The response has been pretty fantastic from friends and supporters and the folks at Discovery Health are pretty hopped up on it as well…good stuff!  I just got the ratings today and our little show is the highest rated show on DH over the last month with somewhere between 600,00-800,000 viewers.  As you might imagine, we are blown away by these results!

The big test comes next week when TLC airs the show for the first time.  They have two dates set:  Tuesday, the 16th at 9:00 pm Central and Wednesday, the 17th at 12:00 am (midnight) Central.  If we have a solid rating on those two airings, our chances of moving to a series look really, really good.  So if you missed it the first time or would like to keep up with the Joneses in High-Def, tune in Tuesday night!

One little twist that we are unsure of at the moment is the name of the show.  TLC has it listed right now as “Quintuplet Surprise,” but we were told today that this might be a mistake and the name may stay as “Too Many Babies?”  I’ll update as soon as I know for sure, but look for both on your TV guides.

The TV show wasn’t the only excitement in our life this last week, however.  Britton and Brooklyn both decided it was time to give this walking thing a real go…they are so close!!  Check out the video below – I caught both of them in the act in one video clip!  We also had a crazy busy weekend – Nana, Bapa, and Aunt Summer (one of my two adopted sisters) came for a visit, one of our volunteers brought her new baby girl, Lila Grace, by for a visit, we met with the Pisner’s, parents of the ninth set of quints ever born in the US (1983), and somehow I managed to write a paper for my negotiations class…whew!!

Sorry to be so short, but it’s time to spend some veg time on the couch with my lady…good night, everyone!

Love this show. Last night I watched them take a visit to see the grandparents. Very heartwarming. May your love continue to grow for one another and for your children. It’s a lot of work but you both have the right attitude day by day with love. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs with us.

My daughter and I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR SHOW. You and your husband are unbelievable parents and obviously love each other and your children very much. You take unexpected events and are able to handle them without melting down and even sometimes have a sense of humor about the unexpected situations. Mommy taking care of the six kids alone while Daddy had to go out of town and not whining one time was so refreshing. When she needed help she called her mother which is the first person anyone should turn to in time of need, parents (aka grandma). You show is so enjoyable to watch as opposed to being stressful like some other reality mom. Your family is a adorable! PLEASE make this a series and stay true to each other and your children. Stay just the way your family is now, it is wonderful!!!!!

PS: I like the name “Quintuplet Surprise” much better than “To many babies”. All six of your babies are beautiful and I don’t see how they could consider naming your show that. KEEP IT QUINTUPLET SURPRISE, IT IS A GREAT NAME.

So to be honest, part of me feels so bad for the family while the other part makes me want to smack someone. I was feeling soo bad for them until I hear the comment by the dad “we had to empty one savings account and going to have to go into another” WOW! I dont have a savings account and my husband served in the army and we struggled to make ends meet WITHOUT a savings account and yet not one person helped our family. I had to be away from my husband for over 15 months so he could serve our country and guess what we got out of it…he got his education “paid for”. Money we rely on on a monthly basis to come in…and we were shorted over 1000 dollars of it this month. Is someone goin to step up and help us? Probably not. This makes me sick. Now…..help with 6 kids is needed i agree, but to ask for handouts while we are selling everything we can to make ends meet while my husband puts his life on the line???? not fair.

  11. Sarah says:

Katie, not every circumstance is comparable. It’s not kind or useful to compare your circumstances to the Jones’. The hand they have been dealt is uniquely difficult, and it will be for a very long time. People are happy to help them, and they should feel free to do so. It’s not about you. It’s about six babies.

Keep up the good work, Jones Family!

  12. jane says:

  16. Jessica says:

i LOVE the show and really hope it becomes a series. I think the name should be kept Quintuplet Surprise, it just sounds better. Hi Ethan & Casey!
I just wanted to tell you how much i LOVE your show! As well as your beautiful children. I think you both seem so patient with eachother and I hope you continue. I can’t imagine how stressful it is but, i think you both need to remember how you both felt about eachother in high school. you seem like such a very sweet, loving family & i hope you cherish every moment you have. always remember you have many, many supporters & they certainly outnumber your non-supporters.

GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING! can’t wait to watch your family again on Monday night!

  20. kaye sandlin says:

Love your show, your family is precious. Ya’ll are blessed with 6 totally adorable children, enjoy every day!!

  21. kelley says:

Hi, just checked out your new show and noticed baby Jack wears a helmet. I haven’t read anywhere why but my son was born with craniosynostosis and I’m wondering if Jack has this as well? It’s when one or more of the skull plates/sutures fuse prematurely, resulting in odd shape head and restricted brain growth. Check out the Jorge Posada Foundation and craniokids.org and capps.org for more info and education.

  22. Debbie says:

Love the show! Congratulations! Those of us watching will never truly understand how hard it is, but I so appreciate the joys you are sharing with us. I love the way you treat each other and the children!

    God Bless

  23. Brenda Venegas says:

I LOVE your show… & your kids are adorable! I am a 21 year old mother of 4… a 3 1/2 yr old little girl, and 3- 14mth old triplet boys! It is very difficult to do what I do… but I admitt, I LOVE every minute of it :D as I am sure… you do too! God Bless You!

  24. Molly says:

The series should be called, “Keeping Up With the Joneses” !
I love that Casey & Ethan clearly love eachother, truly listen to eachother, and enjoy being parents to their children.

    Keep Smiling :)

  25. Monica says:

Love your show. So glad to see you dealing so well with so many changes in your life, and to (finally) have a positive Christian role model for parents. One little thing I noticed on this week’s show. . . please have Eliot and Ethan wear helmets when they are biking! It was so scary for me to see them going so fast to school without helmets. It just takes one little rock in the road to send someone flying and have a serious head injury. Plus it sets a good example for others watching the show. God bless all of you!

  26. The Lord is shining a light on your family! I am so encouragement by your writings and show. They are both real and honest. I love that!

  27. Cindy Bailey says:

I just Love your show and just work TLC and begged for more surprises! I love your show. It is so great tobe able and sit down and watch a show that just makes jou smile from ear to ear! Sorry that some of the thime it at your pain and suffurring! Those kids an just so cute!. Bless all those cute little behinds, but I sure feel for you having to change all those diapers. But what’s going to be even worse is going to be the part were ever 5 minutes your going to hear “I gotta go to the potty” especially when you go out, cause we got to check them out …. all of them….. everywhere… every time we go there, cause they might have changed!! I rememebered those days and I only had two and that was 35 years ago when it was legal to yell at the kids when they could scream at you and throw things across the store and as terrible as that sounds I had really good kids, but sometimes they just go nuts on you! Your going to have kids all ovee the place in the store lined up in time out I live in Austin, I just know that’s going to end up in one of the show some time with all these sextupets and quints! They can’t alway’s be angel’s! I’d have to have a couple of nanny just so I could go in a room for an hour or 2 for quiet time! Or I would end up in time out! Bless you and your Family Love the show

  32. Carri says:

  38. Pattie says:

I love this show y’all are such are great family cutest kids ever hope the show returns!! good things are in store for y’all

  39. Iris says:

I happened to come upon the show by accident after finally getting a TV, and I just looove the show, I love the babies more! I do see a bitter comment up there and I see where she’s coming from since my husband’s in military too. But you know what? I make a do with my family totally fine, it’s called DOWNSIZING if you have trouble making your ends in your family that only has 1~3 kids and not at the same time, not leaving a bitter comment when they have trouble raising 5 babies and 1 in school. Obviously, downsizing alone wouldn’t really be helpful when you have to buy 5 of everything, often they’d have to buy more than 5 of everything (I mean, would you really only buy 5 sippy cups for 5 babies? I bought 4 for my kid just so I could wash two while she uses two!) I know 1 baby doesn’t cost 10,000 a year, but if you have 5 babies, it surely costs more than just 5 times ’cause there’s always that extra cost factor.

Military doesn’t pay a lot and wives often have hard time getting a job and staying in it due to moving, but they do pay some, especially in this economy… (of course I’d want a little more flexibility in finance, but seriously…) Jones will be downsizing (selling their house), and the trouble is their next house can’t be 1 bedroom with 8 people family. And selling their own house is 1 time deal… With this economy in housing market, I cannot imagine how hard it is for them to afford things since the husband’s job is in housing market, and their mom clearly has a hard time just taking care of kids, she doesn’t have any time for herself even with helpers!

And it makes me appreciate the joy in life seeing how happy they are with their babies, not complaining much at all about it. When parents are grumpy or stressed out all the time, it actually reflects on how the babies act, they’re like mirrors. And if you see those babies, you can tell how well they’re taken care of, how happy they are. Sure, I’d like $1000 more a month. But you know what? I’m happy that military pays for housing so I don’t have to worry about getting booted out of the house. If they can’t sell their house and it’ll keep eating up their savings and can you imagine how much stress that can be? I went through something similar in my family when my dad lost a job and it’s scary – going from savings to savings and eventually we had no savings left at all, we moved to a smaller apt and sold every single thing on garage sale to make pennies. But I can tell you that it’s probably not as scary as having 6 babies and knowing your savings could run out at any time, while that house is soaking up money every month. So if anyone wants to leave any bitter comments, please think again.

  40. Iris says:

Oh, and to see how they appreciate their life as a big family and not be all scared and depressed in front of their kids is really really admirable. At least I was a teenager when I had to go through financial hardship and could get a job or two and my parents didn’t have to worry way too much about their kids.

i have caught the Jones program a couple of times and am impressed. Although they do cry it isn’t offensive. also, the parents get along. keep their show on the air!

  46. Your family is just precious! You all are like a breath of fresh air. You all are sweet christian parents who are so calm but, most importantly, kind to everyone esp. to each other. (unlike Jon & Kate, sadly). I’m sure you have moments, but for the most part, you both look so organized & yet so calm & have such a sweet way with your cute kids. God Bless you all. Oh, wish your show came on more often.

    Hello Jones Family!

I first saw an episode of yo0ur family on the Style channel, I think…But since then have LOVED watching yall! Ethan, you are such an amazing person and husband that you would so selflessly and willingly allow for a sperm donor. On top of that you are both SUCH WONDERFUL parents and I love watching yall grow as a family. On other note, your little girl Ryan holds a special place in my heart…because my name is also Ryan Elizabeth! I love it! Please give her a special hug and kiss from a fellow GIRL Ryan.
All my love and wishing yall the best!

  48. Destiny says:

I LOVE this show and can never get enough of it love ya to the Joneses family

  49. Janice says:

The show is like so many others. I am not trying to be ugly but really it makes me frustrated. I understand the reality of the life changes and new responsibility and I am sure it can be overwelming by having lots of kids…props to you! but the whole money situation and complaining about it while some people are really hurting kind of ticks me! This family is very well off compared to most in this country….so really the complaining about money isnt a turn on to the show. When they were shopping for house and the wife was complaining about the tile and paint…geeezzz come on! She says she doesnt care where she lives but too much snottyness for me!

  50. Debbie Byrd says:

I just LOVE seeing you all on this series. There just isn’t enough of it!! So, have you settled in your new home? I wish I lived closer, as I would be more than willing to help you all out!!

It’s good to see a wholesome all American family who goes through the hardships the rest of us have to go through…it makes it more real for all of us.

Please, please bring on more shows! I actually feel like they are my grandchildren sometimes!

Take care and love to you all!
    Debbie
