Good Times

Whew! What a week it has been!!! There is the obvious: keeping up with the demands of this not-so-normal family and our show airing on TLC Tuesday night (that part tends to fill your email inbox pretty quickly). Then there is the not-so-obvious: being stuck in rotation on the mindless carousel that is the City of Austin’s construction permitting process, trying to put the wraps on a major project for my MBA program, and pursuing new project leads that have come in recently.  All of this adds up to ONE…CRAZY…WEEK!!  Aside from the permitting thing, it’s been a whole heckuva lotta crazy fun though, so we’re all smiles over here!!

I’ll start this little recap with the obvious.  The show airing and the response to it has been phenomenal (if not in TV world, certainly in Jones world)!  First, just to see your family on such a big network and to see all of the things they did to promote the show was so awesome!  Really, they surprised us with the big push to the point that the attention was a little discomforting, in a good sort of way…it’s kind of strange to hear a voice-over say, “fall in love with the Joneses” and know that they are referring to your family.  It’s also kind of strange to have your name thrown around with the Gosselin’s and the Duggar’s…scary…very, very scary, my friends!!

And the other obvious?  You know, that family of ours.  Well, it’s been quite a week for them as well.  While Eliot ran off to play with the grandparents this week for Spring Break, Casey Ann and I held it down with the Fab Five.  And they decided that this was their week to show off some new-found skills!  As of this week, we now have five walkers (Jack and Lila decided it was finally time to join the others in the toddler class), five kinda talkers (Britton especially is all about the b’s – baby, bottle, bye-bye, and bubbles!), two future WWE wrestlers (Britton and Jack have perfected the log roll!), one yoga master (Brooklyn does a mean downward facing dog!), and one circus performer (or performer of some kind as Ryan demands your attention…all of the time…with all of her new tricks!).  Oh, and we also have five growlers as they have all decided to be angry, little baby bears with a mean and menacing growl…Brooklyn has the scariest growl of all!  Just wait until Eliot gets back into this crrrraaaaazzzyy mix!

As for the not-so-obvious, life outside of baby world is crazy busy as well, but part of the craziness is quickly coming to a close, thank God!  My MBA program will be complete in a little over a month which will of course free up lots and lots of time.  And, thankfully as well, 2010 looks to be much better on the business front as leads have been picking up since mid-January…being crazy busy on that front is a problem I am very much looking forward to having!

We would like to thank everyone for their support, words of advice, words of admonishment (ok, hard to be thankful for those, but we’ll take the bad with the good), inspiring stories, and words of encouragement!  We have heard from so many wonderful people who have their own story to tell or have found inspiration in hearing our story…the words “overwhelmed,” “gratified,” “humbled,” and “vindicated” immediately come to mind.  At this point, we do not know if our show will be picked up as a series or not, but we are hopeful that it will.  Let me repeat:  we are hopeful that our show will become a series!  Yes, despite the threat of impending doom to our marriage, our morals, and our maternity ward, we believe that people’s lives (ours included) have been, can be, and will continue to be positively impacted through a TV show and hopefully through our TV show (there, I said it, I meant it, and I’m not ashamed of it!).  To those who do not believe that this is possible and to the cynics who have found comfort in their too-bitter worldview, I say this:  read the comments posted to the entries on this blog and read them with an open heart and tell me how it could be otherwise.  Better yet, forget about  how you think God would and would not work in the lives of others and forget about trying to predict how the future of our family will take shape and simply accept events as they unfold, one day at a time…live and let live, for your sake and mine.

All kidding aside, we are very grateful for this opportunity, very mindful of the pitfalls that are sure to challenge us, and very accepting of your prayers for us in that regard.  We entered into this adventure with caution and it is with this same level of prayerful consideration that we will take each new step.  And make no mistake, we need your prayers just as we did when Casey was pregnant and your conversations with Christ carried us through to the day of the babies’ birth and beyond!  I’m not just giving lip service to this, I really mean it.  We believe in the power of prayer and we believe in the power of community (even an on-line community at that!).  And when you combine these two powers, amazing things can happen in your life and in mine!  We have witnessed it, we have experienced it, and we continue to thirst for it.  So join us in this pursuit:  harnessing the power of prayer and the power of this community and allowing God to work in your life and mine to the betterment of all!!

Just like with pictures of my own grandchildren, I see photos of your kids and I think I can SEE them growing.

Congratulations on all you have accomplished. I know the rewards will be many for a job well done.

Sincerely hoping TLC will pick up your show. It seems they currently have a flood of shows on multiples…but yours stands out. I like families who are willing to be honest with its viewers (or as much as privacy allows).

Enjoy this time with your children. It will fly by. Keep us posted about the show. With Warmest Wishes.

I watched your show and thought it was great! I know people are probably warning you about going forward because of the whole reality curse (Jon and Kate plus 8). I have to say that your family seems genuine to me. They seemed very fake from the start. If you guys continue to keep your faith and put God and family first things will all fall into place.
    Good Luck and God Bless!

I LOVE the picture of Jack in the box, I have SO many pictures of Jacob in his toy baskets, what is it with boys?

P.S. Stay strong and don’t listen to the cynics, life is too short!

  4. Congrats to you and your family on a wonderful show, in fact I can’t wait to watch again tomorrow. It is so wonderful that you will have your MBA in a month, what a wonderful example for your children.
    God Bless you all.

Congratulations on such a wonderful family and inspiring show! Has Casey ever thought about being in the photography business? She does such a wonderful job taking and displaying pictures of the children–many people would LOVE someone so dedicated into their own children’s photography to take unique pictures of their little ones!!!

  6. ‘Go the Jones crew!’. May whatever is the right thing for all of you with respect to the TV series happen. God knows what the decision is and now we all have to wait and see what that is. Take care!

My parents and I watched your show. My parents have nine kids…no multiples, but they always made the money stretch and they always made sure our kids happiness was first. As long as your kids are happy and your face and knees are planted at the feet of the cross God will take care of the rest. Who care what other people have to say God will deal with them later. You are guys are a great couple and your kids are the cutest.

You all are doing a great job! If anyone tells you otherwise, suggest that they walk a mile in your shoes! Glad to hear business is picking up! Love the pictures of your precious blessings!

  11. Stacy says:

Great pics, as always! Glad Eliot had a good time w/the g’parents. I bet it was nice for her to have a break, but I’m sure she was happy to get home. I’ve watched the show no less than four times now & can’t wait for it to be picked up as a series. Will keep praying for it & for your beautiful family.
Oh yeah – Ryan is a HUGE Yankees fan, so big ups from him for the pic of Jack. :)

I watched your show tonight for the first time and really felt for you. My dh and I have a 4 year old and 11 month old twins and I just can’t imagine life with 5, 2 was hard enough. We can also relate to the financial difficulties that occur when having multiples.
I wish you and your family all the best. The babies are so cute and Elliot must love being a big sister, though I can certainly relate to feeling like not having enough time for all the children. My older son’s need were sometimes set aside until the twins were dealt with.
Hope your show gets picked up and things work out for all of you. Can’t wait to see more

  13. Chal Creese says:

    Crazy week for sure.
Like to know how do you manage the financial part of this ? Has to be hard. Can only possibly imagine. Tuned in to the show tonight and it is real downer of a show. Too serious.

Shows become shows when you are either laughing, giggling, smiling or being drawn into a plot. This one was is made for you to leave and watch at home.

Your realtor is a selling machine. He was the funniest part of the whole show–realistic and funny.
If your family is holy on Christ then God will help you lead out. And how can you pay only interest on a loan? Sooner or later the short sale/foreclosure aspect of it will come into the forecast and what is your family going to do then?
Best come up with a plan before you weather away once the bank takes it then your family will have nothing.

    Good luck

It looks like you could use some every now and then. I would love to see the show as a series, I hope that works out. This world needs a few good christian families to influence them. 20. Diane says:

A family that has faith, morals and gratitude? Can that make a hit? I am praying it will. I just loved your show! Really a breath of fresh air. It’s so real, you want to watch another episode to see if everything works out.

  21. Deanna Robbins says:

  22. Haley says:

If its allright could you email me at Yall are better then jon and kate!!!:) if i where to rate yalls show on a scale of 1-200 i would give it a 200 even more than that. I love babies there so cute but i think yalls kids are the cutes things ever.

  23. Rosi says:

Your family is beautiful, full of love and god. You are so genuine. I laughed and I also because of the econmy feel for your family., It hit ours. You have god, those beautiful children, and a lovely wife. Doesn’t matter how big or fancy the house is, lots of families are happier with the basics. Kids get more love and learning from Mom and Dad when they don’t have everything gadget or fancy. Will be watching for more of your episodes. Each family. The Duggar kids seem very settled and good mined, and wonderful parents whether there are 2 or 19. We won’t say anything of the Gosselins, they don’t even fit in a sentence with The Jones’ or Duggars’. God bless and love those babies.

  24. Sara says:

I’m a mommy to b/g twins and I thought that was tough! HA! You guys are amazing, and I do hope your show gets picked up. God bless you.

  25. Klin says:

Sounds like crazy good! Praying you get your show. Cause!

Have you got some video of your walkers and talkers. I love to watch those, too.

    Enough about me. Go Joneses!!!

  26. Tori says:

I’m glad your crazy busy we a good crazy busy. :)

  27. Jill S says:

I saw your show and really enjoyed it. I was a fan of Jon and Kate’s kids, and also enjoy the Duggars. Even going back to the 1970s, The Brady Bunch was fascinating too! It’s heartwarming to see the children grow, and get to learn about each one and “know” them, even as just a viewer. I have my fingers crossed for you. Viewers such as myself would love to see more of you all, and I’m sure having the show would help you all out too. Let’s hope it works out!

  28. Karen says:

I have to say I am a mother of 5.. with one set of twins; now 5 months. I can relate to your family in so many ways. Can’t wait to see more!!

  29. Jen says:

I think you have a great attitude about the possibilities. If you are following the direction of God, putting your marriage first, and paying attention to the potential strains, you will be fine. The Duggars are a wonderful example of how a Christian family can be a testimony on national tv.

  30. Christina says:

I love the honesty, It’s not always rainbows and butterflies. I hope it all works out the way YOU want it to. Have a wonderful life.

  31. Nora says:

As a child development teacher in Illinois I was THRILLED to show your TLC special to my class today as a welcome back from spring break. All my students were fascinated by your family and very impressed with all the daily life management involved in caring for six kids, a home and each other. My students asked if they could see more episodes in the future. I hope that will be the case! Best wishes!

  32. Carla Smith says:

Love your show! I was curious what the type of puppy ya’ll were lookin at in East Texas? I too have told my four kids they can have a puppy and these dogs look really adorable. Thanks.
